Zion National Park
Hiking Index
Zion National Park has so many unbelievable hikes, it was difficult trying to pick which ones we had time to do in a week. Linda and I took turns packing Tanis, and he was even able to do a complete one mile hike on his own.
We hit the park in July of 2002, not a likely time to be out on the trails due to the oppressive sun and baking heat.
After the first day of doing the Emerald Pools starting around 10:00 A.M., we decided in an hour of baking that we would be getting up nice and early to do hikes. It was extremely hot and unforgiving.
We packed 170 ml of water on every hike and was always empty by the time we finished. I sweat at an unbelievable rate. People have been known to be hit by my squirtying sweat at five feet away. I can soak entire shirts, backpacks, ruin leather belts, shorts and socks. I consider it "healthy and sexy."
