Unfortunately, Haley didn't have any shoes that would work for her very well.  But she didn't let that stop her at all getting up that slab.  She pulled into the pockets, dug in with her toes, pulled with her arms and lifted with her legs.  She got pretty tired on the last climb and I know she was ready to be done.

Haley O'Donnell with Asterick Pass gleaming over her arete - Smith Rock - Top Rope

I took turns belaying the kids and climbing over on the face with Dane-O, Joel, Jenny, Wild Kim, Brandon and Bethany.  We were all crawling the 5.10's across the face of the block.  It's always a lot of fun to not have to work to climb some fun, short over-rated climbs.

Asterick Pass in the golden sunset - Smith Rock - Sport Climbing

As the sun climbed over west ridgeline we started wrapping up our activities and decided to get the kids out of there while their was still daylight.  Joel and I cleaned the top of the block of ropes and gear.  Just beyond the block you could see the little Snoopy head of Asterick Pass, your one-way ticket to the West Side for reprieve from the desolating heat in the summer mornings.  I swear, there are times when you take that one step over the Asterick Pass threshold, and the wind hits you enough to physically throw you off balance; it's better than air conditioning.
